Year 6

Class teachers

Mr. Robin Bunting and Mrs Hannah Bailey

Welcome to Year 6 – the final year of your child’s time at DPS.

In Year 6 we are focussed on high expectations of behaviour and focus, as well as expecting the children to show maximum effort in order to be the best that they can! Our aim is to develop resilient learners, ready for the next stage of their learning journey.

The Year 6 curriculum is full of exciting learning opportunities. In History, we will travel back to WW2 and discover the impact of this momentous conflict on the people of the UK. Also, we will visit Bletchley Park – the home of the legendary codebreakers.

In Geography, we will take a global look at sustainable energy sources, population change and undertake fieldwork in the local area.

Our Science topics include evolution and inheritance - learning about Charles Darwin, classification of living things and electricity – which involves building circuits.

The remainder of our curriculum is varied and exciting, ranging from looking at film scores in Music to positive relationships and how babies are made in PSHCE!

One of the highlights of the year is our residential visit in May. This gives the children the opportunity to undertake a range of outdoor and adventurous activities whilst building independence, resilience and have a whole heap of fun.

Children are prepared for the statutory KS2 assessments (SATs) so that they can achieve the very best they can and be well-prepared for secondary school.

We look forward to making the last year at DPS, the best!
