Year 2

Class teachers

Miss Claire Stanley and Mrs Penwell (W)

Welcome to Year 2 – a year packed with wonder, challenge and fun!

In Year 2, we aim to inspire a love of learning while helping children grow in confidence, independence and resilience. Our curriculum is rich, engaging and carefully designed to build key knowledge and skills across all subjects.

This year, our learning will take us on some exciting journeys. In Geography, pupils will explore the wonders of habitats in different climates, our local area and what would be like to live by the coast

In History, we’ll step back in time to learn about schools in the past, how we learnt to fly and what a monarch is. and uncover the fascinating civilisation of the Mayans, comparing life then and now.

A strong focus in Mathematics will be developing secure number knowledge, particularly place value, addition and subtraction. We will also start to explore multiplication and division questions.

Year 2 continues the development of the children’s reading by revisiting and extending their phonic knowledge from year 2. Continued reading at home and in school in important and we will encourage a love of reading through class stories and books shared at home.

Year 2 also offers memorable experiences beyond the classroom. We are excited about the trips and visits including the Deanshanger heritage visitor and the trip to Hazard Alley, which will help build independence and teamwork.

We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, discovery and growth in Year 2!
