Year 3

Class teacher

Miss Ball

Year 3 is a really exciting time as children begin their journey through Key Stage 2 and grow in confidence and independence. We support them as they learn to organise themselves, take on new responsibilities, and work together to overcome challenges. As they become more fluent readers, we help them develop a genuine love of reading through shared stories, engaging discussions and plenty of opportunities to enjoy books in class.
Our curriculum is packed with memorable learning. In History, children explore the fascinating world of the Ancient Egyptians, creating their own decorative scrolls in Art to bring the topic to life. In Geography, we investigate dramatic environments, including volcanoes and the icy world of Antarctica. Science offers lots of hands‑on learning, with units on Magnets and Forces, Fossils, and an exciting investigation into whether hand span affects grip strength.
In Maths, we focus on securing essential times tables (2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8) and building confidence with written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Writing is a real highlight this year. Children explore a wide range of genres—stories, descriptions, newspapers, poems and more—while thinking carefully about the impact they want their writing to have on the reader.
Throughout the year, we plan to welcome visitors and organise enrichment opportunities to help bring our learning to life and deepen children’s understanding across the foundation subjects.
We look forward to an inspiring, enjoyable and memorable year of learning together in Year 3!
