At Deanshanger Primary School, our Early Years curriculum is rooted in rich, hands-on experiences and our local community. We value meaningful links with village life, local traditions and seasonal events, helping children develop a strong sense of belonging and cultural capital. Our inclusive curriculum is responsive to individual starting points, ensuring every child is supported to thrive.

Our intent is for children to leave EYFS as confident, curious and resilient learners who are ready for the next stage of education. We foster a love of learning through a carefully organised, child-led environment supported by skilled adult interactions. Children are encouraged to explore, think critically, take risks and develop independence, self-regulation and collaboration.

Implementation is underpinned by current research and a balanced blend of adult-led, adult-initiated and child-led learning. Communication and language are prioritised across all areas. Phonics (Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised) and mathematics (White Rose Maths) are taught through clearly sequenced, high-quality teaching, alongside play-based and cross-curricular learning. Continuous observation and assessment ensure provision is responsive and purposeful.

The impact of our curriculum is strong. Outcomes consistently exceed national expectations, with children leaving EYFS confident, capable and emotionally resilient, with secure foundations in communication, literacy, mathematics and personal development. Children are well prepared for future learning and equipped with the curiosity and positive mindset needed for lifelong success.
