Dear Parents/Carers,

The children have come back to school with a fabulous attitude to their learning and are keen to progress!

Over the next 5 weeks, Year 2 will be completing the unit of work called ‘Buildings’ and beginning the ‘Live And Let Live’ topic from the IPC. This unit of work is part of the International Primary Curriculum. In Live And Let Live, we will be learning about living things (including humans) need in order to survive. We are going to find out the answers to these key questions:

· What do living things need in order to survive and grow?

· Do humans have the same needs?

· What’s the difference between a living thing and something that has never been alive?

If you have any unusual pets at home and would be willing to bring into school and talk about, please let you child’s teacher know.

Reading is vital and we encourage you to read with your child daily. Please record all of your child’s reading in their Home/School Diary. Reading 4 or more times a week is rewarded with a dojo. The children will continue to access Accelerated Reading quizzes at school, please encourage them to do a quiz at school at least once a week. The children will continue to visit the school library each week and may choose a book to take home to read. Please send library books to school on a Monday for changing.

Outdoor PE is on Thursday mornings, taught by Ryan. Indoor PE is on Friday mornings.

The children will need:

· White or red T-shirt

· Black shorts or jogging bottoms

· Black hoody or tracksuit jacket

· Trainers suitable for outdoor use in cold weather
(Slogans or football club affiliations are not permitted)

· Earrings should not be worn on PE days or they should be removed or taped by the child before the lesson. Long hair should be tied back.

Forest School learning will continue to take place on a Tuesday afternoon, each week alternating between classes. We kindly ask that you send your child to school with their Forest School kits (waterproofs) and wellington boots this week in readiness. The conditions are likely to be wet, cold and muddy this term so please ensure they have the appropriate clothing for this activity. The children also can wear their kits for lunchtime play, if it is sent home for a wash please return it to school as quickly as possible. If your child enjoys messier or muddier play please send in spare clothing for them to change into.

If you have any comments or questions about your childs learning, please get in touch. We look forward to working with you and your child.

Kind regards,

The Year 2 Team
