School Meals

Since September 2014 the government has funded schools in England to provide every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with a hot, nutritious healthy meal at lunchtime. Their aim is to improve academic attainment and save families money.  Since September 2016, our chosen lunchtime meal provider has been Fresh Start. Lunches are available for all children in the school and are charged at a cost of £2.30 a day for those in years 3-6. Parents of children eligible for free school meals should share their eligibility letter (from Northants County Council) with Mrs Hodge and Miss Zeolla in the school office so that this can be shared with the Fresh Start team.

Fresh Start cook fresh meals on the school site every day. Every meal and dessert is cooked from scratch, including base sauces and fresh bread which is baked each morning for that day. All fresh ingredients are locally sourced within our community, i.e. meat is purchased from local butchers and eggs and milk from local farmers, and fruits and vegetables are prioritised according to season and freshness. Tables are laid with cutlery and fresh drinking water and meals are served traditionally using plates and bowls rather than flight trays. All meals are in line with our commitment to healthy lifestyles.

Meal ordering is completed in much the same way using Fresh Start’s own online ordering system. Menus are on a 3 weekly basis and are rotated termly. With the exception of meat-free Mondays, each menu contains a meat/fish option, a vegetarian option, a jacket potato, a deli bar option, and a dessert. Bread, salad and fresh fruit are prepared onsite and are available daily. Packed lunches are also provided for school trips.
