Poppy Display 2018
On Sunday 11th November there was an incredibly special and memorable Remembrance Sunday celebration outside our school and at Holy Trinity Church in the village. All of our children created their own poppy. These were displayed outside the school on Sunday and many families and visitors came to admire this fantastic display. It was VERY meaningful and a fitting tribute to the lives of all people who have been touched by the impact of war and, in particular, remembered the centenary of the end of World War 1. We have received many positive comments about the display and the impact it has had.
One of the most poignant messages was from a lady who had come to visit her father last weekend:
‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Students and Staff of Deanshanger Primary for the amazing display of Poppies outside your school at the weekend.
My father is a frail 87 old man, who enjoyed a drive around the village to see all the poppies. When he saw your display, I stopped the car for him to look at it, he got out of the car, and walked over to the display. There he stood in silence for a moment remembering loved ones that served during the 2nd World War.
Anyway, my thanks is for my father having the opportunity to pay his respects, through your thoughtful display.
He was so made up with the fact that young children would take the time and effort to not just buy and display, but make and proudly display their creations.’
