Deanshanger Primary School (@DeanshangerS) | Twitter

It has been a very busy half-term with lots of great progress from your children.  We are proud of the way that our Reception group, and the new children across the school, have settled and how focused everyone has been.

Yesterday was a very special one as we planned activities bringing the classes together. In the morning they had class buddy sessions (largely on Zoom) and an outside house event in the afternoon. It was so touching to see how the children took care of each other and enjoyed the activities in their mixed groups - something that we haven't done for a very long time!

Whilst it has been great to have a term of school days being free from closures, as you have been aware, it has been pretty challenging. Illness, both COVID and unrelated, has taken its toll on us, and we have been reliant on a huge amount of understanding and great teamwork. We can only hope that as we head into the colder months, that we can continue to keep going as smoothly as possible in the best interests of the children. As always, we rely on strong communication from you. If your child is unwell for any reason, please let us know. If they show any signs of COVID, please keep them at home until official information is known.

Our very best wishes extend to the children and families that are currently at home with COVID. I sincerely hope that you have it mildly and that the recovery is quick.

Staffing updates

We would like to pass on our grateful thanks and best wishes to Mrs. Hannah Holden and Mrs. Julie Skinner for their hard work and dedication to their roles in the school kitchen working for Fresh Start (and Wrap Club too for Mrs. Holden). As they head off to new schools and ventures, we hope that they take happy memories of their time at our school. They will be missed.

Alongside our goodbyes this week, we have also welcomed Mrs. Rachael Griffin as our new Forest School Lead. Mrs. Griffin will be working alongside Mrs. Tolley-Goodger, Mrs. Kelsey and all the classes. With so much rain and wind this week, it made for an 'interesting' start to the role!

Recruitment

On the school website you'll see that we are currently recruiting for a cleaner and for two positions in the Wrap Club. If you could help us spread the word with these, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you

We are incredibly proud of Zayne Acharia - our first Accelerated Reading Word Millionaire!

Chair of Governor Updates

It has been a very busy time for me as Chair and for the governors in general.

We had our first full governor's meeting of the new academic year, and we welcomed Helen Gibson as our new clerk; we hope she will enjoy her time with us, keeping us in order and on the right track.

Our agenda included the election of Chair and Vice-Chair, membership of committees, lead governors for the year groups, a very comprehensive Head teacher report, arranging provisional dates for governor visits and a learning walk.

I have attended three virtual assemblies on Wednesday afternoons and enjoyed being part of these sessions.

Last Friday morning I met with our SENCO Natalie Wilmot, these meeting are always very informative and valuable sessions as they enable me to understand how the school delivers support, assessment, communication and engagement with pupils, teachers, parents and outside agencies. We went through a comprehensive SEND report and shared ideas and ways we are developing new strategies to always ensure inclusivity for all pupils.

On Monday, I met with our Business Manager to go through the Single Central Records (SCR) - these are documents ensuring up-to-date information on all those employed or who volunteer at the school to ensure that they meet statutory requirements re safeguarding.

Governors will also be reviewing the results of both parent and staff surveys to better support both of them in their needs and expectations.

As Governors, we are kept informed of the latest government advice re Covid and the school adjusts the risk assessment accordingly to ensure everyone is kept as  safe as possible and is aware of their responsibilities.

Please remember I am available to all parents/carers, as are our parent governors if you want to talk to us.

Have a good half-term and once again thank you for all your continued support for the school as a whole

Huge thanks

The family from Afghanistan that you have recently helped, are incredibly thankful and humbled by your generosity. The children love all the toys, stationery and clothing. Words can't describe how the donated items are making their lives easier and happier.

Future Job Day

We all had a lot of fun and interesting conversations yesterday about the future and what professions the children might like to pursue. It is very important to us that the children's dreams are big and are always followed. Following the lyrics of one of the school's favourite songs, we need to always 'reach for stars'.

Thank you very much for joining us at the end of the day for the parade - it was a big moment to have so many of you on the school site.

Thank you so much for sending in bulbs Yesterday to help us brighten up the front of the school. We are all set for a beautiful display in the Spring.

Run A Mile In Style IS BACK!

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, our ‘Run a mile in style’ club will begin again on Wednesday 3rd November. This club allows children to come to school to run a mile before the school gates open at 8:40. It is a great way to start your child’s day off and also promotes a healthy lifestyle to children of all ages.

Small prizes are awarded for personal achievements and the children can also earn points towards their sports day team too!

If you would like your child to take part, then please bring your child to the school office for 8:15am. They will be marked as present on the school site and can then make their own way up to the KS2 playground where Mrs Young will be waiting for them.

If your child wishes to wear their trainers for the running, then that is no problem at all, just make sure you bring your school shoes to change into afterwards.

Looking forward to seeing you running in the mornings.

Mr Gregory, PE Lead

Wishing you all a happy and safe half-term break.

We look forward to welcoming back your children on Tuesday 2nd November after the staff training day on Monday 1st.

Very best wishes,

Rachel Rice
