Deanshanger Primary School - Newsletter13- 19/03/2021

It has been a real smooth start back since all of the children returned on 8th March; it's as if many have not been away! Although we are still following strict risk assessment guidelines, it's funny how 'normal' it all feels. All credit to you, the staff and the children for showing such amazing resilience at this time. There is no doubt that is it absolutely wonderful to have nearly all of the children back.

Most of the year groups have had assessments this week in order to help us identify the progress made and the gaps that we can now start to address. Again, the children have been really open to these and have tried hard.

Thank you for helping us reduce the risks at drop-off and pick-up times but socially distancing, wearing masks and keeping the children from different bubbles away from each other - we appreciate that it is far from easy.

On Monday, we are moving the gate that Year 5 children are entering and exiting from as we have realised that it is tricky using the gate near the car park. Year 5, we look forward to welcoming you from the KS2 gate. I will send a separate email to confirm the timings.

This week we have been focusing on neurodiversity - recognising that everyone's brain works differently, celebrating our differences and talking about how to support and respect each other. The following site will provide a huge amount of excellent resource information if you would like to find out more - https://www.neurodiversity-celebration-week.com/

Have a talk to your children and hopefully they'll be able to share lots of information with you.

Updates from our Chair of Governors

It has been exciting to welcome the children back to school and see how quickly they have settled back into the routine.

Governors have continued with their virtual meetings with teachers and have also had an opportunity to experience actual class teaching through virtual sessions online.  I want to thank the teachers for giving their time to enable us to see the excellent work they are doing.

We had a Personnel meeting on Monday, again virtually,  and discussed staffing, feedback from OFSTED visit, safeguarding matters and updates on the MAT working partnership.

I took part in a virtual meeting with the LA, school and Grand Union Partnership on Tuesday and we followed up on action from our last meeting and set priorities for our next meeting. These discussions enable us to share good practice and developments in the school and ways we can work.

I have continued to join virtual assemblies and hope one day to be able along with all governors to visit the school in person and see the teachers and pupils in real-time.

Last night the governors met with the LA to talk through school improvement and to consider any training needs.

Have a good weekend and can I wish you all an early Happy Easter break.

Chick Hatching At Its Best!
What an amazing experience for our foundation stage children. They witnessed the wonderful moment the chicks hatched. The eggs wobbled and and the children heard cheeping from within the egg, just before they hatched.

Sports Days

Tuesday 29th June – EYFS and Key Stage One Sports Day (ie, all children in EYFS, Y1 and Y2 )

Friday 2nd July – Key Stage Two Sports Day (all children in Year 3,4,5 and 6)

Last year we were unable to hold our annual Sports Day. This year, we will be holding a Sports Day for all children. How this works and what exactly happens we cannot share until much closer to the time. To give us the best opportunity of it happening as close to normal as possible, we will be moving the dates back a week.

Parents evening dates

Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th April

We will be having Parents’ Evenings on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th April. Appointments will be ten minutes long and, due to current restrictions, via Zoom. After the Easter break, you will be able to book slots via Arbor. There will be no written report but teachers will share results from recent assessments and areas of strength and for further development.

If you would like to make an appointment with Natalie Wilmot, our SENCo, please email her at SENCo@deanshanger.northants.sch.uk

Term Calendar for SY 2021-22

The full dates will be shared shortly, but the first day of term in September 2021 will be on Friday 3rd September.

Community Fridge

Plans to get our Community Fridge up and running are rapidly coming together.

What's happened since our last update?

The Kiln has been sold and collected. Mr Dudden has painted the room filling in the holes in the walls and the racking has been set up. Both public liability insurance and food hygiene certificates have been obtained. The fridge has been delivered and we have a food partnership confirmed with Co-op.

We are hopeful a grant application will soon be confirmed. This has not been signed off yet but will be a good basis for us to start from.

We visited the community Fridge at Wolverton to get some understanding on the organisation aspects of the fridge. It was a very informative evening and will help guide our setup when we open.

What's happening next?

We plan to open on Monday 12th April. Opening times to be confirmed. We want to operate as an honesty fridge for as long as we can.

We will need to do evening food pickups once we get started, so we may need volunteers for this. If you are interested in helping us run the community fridge, please email Mr Peel to express your interest:)

As always, please make contact if you have any questions about any aspect of school life - open communication is really important.

Finally, please ensure that all items that come into school are labelled to make it much easier to return items to the right child.

Stay safe and have a lovely weekend,
