Sunflower Award
at Deanshanger Primary School

In memory of Mrs Annette Robson

Annette was a very special lady and a highly valued member of staff. She is sorely missed at Deanshanger Primary School.

As the sunflower was her favourite flower, we had created a termly Sunflower Award to recognise and celebrate children that show the attributes that she showed daily - kindness, caring, positivity, strength and loyalty.

Reception Award - Frankie

When I think back to the times when Mrs Robson welcomed everyone into school every day, I remember her smile and her warm, caring nature. These are both qualities we see every day in Frankie. He is always lovely to everyone and I have never had to speak to him about being unkind to anyone. He has a cheeky smile and great sense of humour - especially when Mrs Taylor and I showcase our dance moves - his eyes roll and he watches in disbelief!.

Frankie has a positive approach to his learning and always remembers to "Try, try, try again like a Triceratop" when faced with a challenge. He is a great team player, but also enjoys having time to himself away from the hustle and bustle of the class. I sometimes find him drawing beautifully detailed pictures all by himself, just chilling out and focussing on something that interests him, which is wonderful!

I have been so lucky to have Frankie in my class this year and this Sunflower award is very well deserved. Well done Frankie.

Year 1 Award - Ava

There is a little girl in the year 1 classroom who always shows our school values and is exceptionally kind to her peers. She is always willing to help the adults and the children in the class  and share her resources with anyone who needs them. Her classmates admire her for being friendly and caring towards everyone. She is a great example of how being kind can make a positive impact on those around you. Her actions inspire others to be more compassionate and considerate as well. The sunflower award goes to Ava Simons

Year 2 Award - Lilly

Year 2 Sunflower award is going to Lilly she is always friendly, kind and caring.  Lilly is always making sure others are okay and have a friend to play with.  When other children haven’t made good choices, she is keen to help them to follow the right path, a true role model. When going on a trip recently a parent  helper went out of her way to tell the Year 2 staff how kind and patient she was    with others. Since starting in year 2, she has worked hard in all she has done and  works well with others in the class. Lilly sees the bright side of life and is a positive ray of sunshine in my class!

Year 3 Award - Charlotte

Charlotte has been chosen for the Sunflower award because she represents the values of our school perfectly. She always has a positive outlook on their learning and perseveres when faced with a challenge. Charlotte is so polite and has such a kind and gentle nature about her. She is always looking to help others within the classroom and the other members of the class see her as a true friend! Other members of staff have commented on how lovely and polite she is. Me, Miss Peers and Mrs TG all think Charlotte is more than deserving of the Sunflower award.

Year 4 Award - Poppy

The Year 4 Sunflower award this term goes to Poppy Bailey. She is someone who always tries her best and faces all challenges   with a cheery smile. Poppy is always ready to volunteer to lend a helping hand whether the task is light or arduous, helping a fellow student or a member of staff. I have never heard Poppy grumble or complain about anything. She does not ask for rewards or compliments, she just does whatever she can to help everybody around them. Poppy is also a very dedicated student who gets on with all her work without fuss or drama. Well done, Poppy

Year 5 Award - Layla

Layla is the epitome of what the sunflower award is about. She is kind, caring, a hard-worker and resilient to every task thrown her way. She is an amazing friend to every child and will always put other people first before herself. She can always be counted on and has been my go-to person for end of the day reminders. Layla has a fantastic sense of humour and always has a smile on her face. Her confidence has grown tremendously throughout the year and has supported wider-school life in a variety of ways this year, for example helping out in the kitchen at lunchtimes or through performing arts. She's been an absolute pleasure to have in the classroom and I am sure she will continue to shine in Year 6 and beyond!

Year 6 Award - Emily and Holly

Sometimes through our profession, we come across children who are equally as confident in the classroom as they are on the sport's field and this is absolutely the case with you two. Hard-working, enthusiastic, reliable and dedicated are just some of the many traits you have consistently displayed each and every day throughout Year 6. You both approach every aspect of school-life with an incredibly positive attitude and the determination to be the best. Even though these are qualities that you share, you are both individual characters who continue to flourish in your own unique manner and we are certain this will allow you both to succeed at EWS. You are a credit to yourselves and a credit to your parents and thoroughly deserve to end your time at Deanshanger with a well-deserved Sunflower Award
