The last couple of weeks have been awash with regular learning, an ice skating show, a movie night (with a visit from Santa!), rehearsals, concerts, fun in the snow, a buddy event, a house event, enjoying class parties and the most delicious Christmas lunch!

Full galleries have now been uploaded on to website

Thank you for coming in to support many of these special events and being behind your very talented and amazing children. It has been particularly special to all be back together after a couple of years of not being able to do so! Particular thanks to the team at Holy Trinity for opening up the church to us and our families. Thank you, Barry for supporting the rehearsals and Rev James Pennington for extending such a warm welcome.

The PTA have been extremely generous and kind and each class was given a party box of games, DVDs and snacks as a Christmas gift! Huge thanks to you for making the season so magical.

To really get you in the Christmas spirit, please enjoy the following video. Thank you to everyone for playing an active role in this and to Mr Larcombe for his genius film making skills! Merry Christmas.

There are plenty of ideas about books to read including one recently released by Mr Larcombe, 'Where's Bear at Christmas?'.

Mrs. Julie Atkinson has worked tirelessly at Deanshanger Primary since 2011. Julie has been most recently our very knowledgable and passionate librarian. There's not an author that she doesn't know, a book recommendation that she can't make and a story that she can't richly bring to life! Julie will be leaving us at the end of the month.

Wishing you all the very best, Mrs Atkinson

Mr. Trevor Gregory will be leaving Deanshanger Primary School on the 31st December 2022. He has decided to leave his employment with the Trust in order to pursue new opportunities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Trevor for his time at Deanshanger Primary School and wish him all the best in the future.

Dear Deanshanger Community,

Joining the Grand Union Partnership has been a strong next step forward for us as a school. It has been a very busy time, but one in which we are gradually transitioning our procedures and policies in line with the other schools in the MAT. We have welcomed new governors to join us in our ventures to continually reflect and improve.

Our governing body consists of Roger Owen, Mani Janakiraman, Vincent Lajux, Andy Limbert, Laura Partridge, Beccy Merritt, Emma Satchwell-Graham, Kim Ritchie and myself. We have a variety of backgrounds and years of governance experience to challenge and support DPS.

On behalf of the local academy committee, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas. We look forward to working closely with you and the school again in 2023!

Wishing you all the very best,

Peter Nickoll

Chair of Local Academy Committee

From Monday 5th December to Friday 9th December, 20 Year 6 children participated in Level 1 and Level 2 Bikeability training. It has been a couple of years since we have participated in this training. As a school, we feel this training is extremely valuable as it teaches the children to ride their bike safely to school and within the village. The types of things the children have to do include the following:

Level 1 Bikeability

Through fun, progressive games, pupils must demonstrate the following to progress onto on-road training:

• Apply brakes to bring the cycle to a smooth and quick stop

• Look behind over each shoulder while pedalling in a straight line

• Pedal one-handed in a straight line

• Use gears (if present)

• Avoid hazards in this training.

Level 2 Bikeability

Riders will be taken onto residential roads to experience ‘real’ road cycling covering:

  • Starting and stopping journeys
  • Passing stationary vehicles
  • Understanding road signals, signs and markings
  • Negotiate junctions
  • Sharing the road with others

We are delighted to share that all children who took part in the training, passed! The instructors who took the course were impressed with the resilience and attitude of our learners.

We now have a Level 1 and 2 Bikeability course running for our Year 5 children in February and hope to be able to offer a Level 1 Bikeability course for Years 3 and 4 in 2023!  Details to follow. All Bikeability courses are free of charge.

2021 Invention Convention Coming in January | About Us

Over this Christmas and new year period, there is an optional activity that you can consider with your child/ren in readiness for our Invention Convention on 10th January. Working on their own, or as a family, the children are encouraged to consider a real life problem and then invent something that solves it. The children are encouraged to record their ideas and plans and then, if at all possible, create a model to demonstrate the invention - it is not expected that the model will work.

The event on 10th January, is an opportunity for all children in the school to share their invention with the school in true Dragon's Den style! Tables will be set up around the hall for the children to showcase their models on. They should be ready to talk about their invention, why they made it and how it works.

If your child is showcasing their invention on 10th January, you are welcome to come along from 2.30pm to see the inventions.

The week after our internal Invention Convention, we will be hosting a Grand Union Partnership one here @DPS for some of the contestants from our school and the other schools in the partnership.

Wishing you all a very peaceful and fun festive time

Happy Christmas and a heathy and happy 2023!

Staff will be returning for first aid training on 3rd January

Children should return on 4th January at 8.45am
