Deanshanger Primary School (@DeanshangerS) | Twitter

It has been a particularly wonderful couple of weeks in school with so many extra events enriching school life.  In our assembly this afternoon, we spent the first part sharing our favourite moments in school and it was so lovely to hear the moments that stood out for the children eg, the ice skating show, their performances, bikeability, learning new songs, Angels at the Abbey, hosting a group of older members of our community for a Christmas lunch, school trips and working hard as a team. There are still concerts and special events to come next week too!

The Year 2 and Year 3 concert was beautiful and definitely put us all in the Christmas spirit! The ever-growing confidence was great to see. We then had the Y1 concert and again, I was blown away by their ability to learn so many songs and words! Next week it's the turn of the Reception classes with their school concert and Y4,5 and 6 at Holy Trinity Church. The times are below in the calendar section.

Two weeks ago we had the PTA movie night which was well attended and a lot of fun. Big thanks to all members of the PTA for setting up such magical opportunities. We were particularly excited to see Santa. A full gallery of photos will be uploaded in the coming days. I do apologise for the slow handover at the end of the movie - the darkness made it very tricky and hence we had to quickly consider a Plan B! Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The ice skating show trip yesterday marked quite a big step forward for us as it was obviously the first such whole school opportunity since COVID days! The school was locked up and every single person here headed off to enjoy the show. It was even more special to see the talents of one of our current pupils - River, and a former pupil - Sophie.  They both skated brilliantly.

Adding to the excitement of next week, we have our Christmas lunch day, the Christmas Shop and further opportunities to wear our Christmas jumpers!

On Fridays 25th November and 2nd December, we hosted our annual Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee is an opportunity for children to practise their expertise in spelling. Open communication is very important to us and at all times, we are keen to hear both the areas that are going well or how we can help your and your child/ren further. If you would prefer to do this anonymously, please be reminded that there is a post box outside the front of school for comments.

After the Christmas break, we will be bringing back our previously very useful Parent Action Group (PAG) meetings. Dates and times will be shared. These meetings are an opportunity for us to gauge your thoughts about various aspects of school life and, as always, you are encouraged to bring your own items along to discuss.

DPS Christmas Shop

On 12th December, we will be opening up the DPS Christmas Shop. If needed, it will re-open later in the same week to try and avoid disappointment.

Children should bring in £2 if they would like to buy a gift for a family member. They will be able to choose this and wrap it ready to go straight under the tree. They can choose multiple gifts if they would like.  For younger children, please write on the envelope who they need to buy a gift for.

2021 Invention Convention Coming in January | About Us

Over the Christmas and new year period, there will be an optional activity that you can consider with your child/ren.

We will be running an Invention Convention on 10th January. This is an opportunity for all children in the school to invent an item that will solve a problem Dragon's Den style! More information will be shared before we break up for the holiday, but it is never too early to start thinking of ideas!

Working on their own, or as a family, models can be made to demonstrate the invention - these do not need to be working models.

The week after our internal Invention Convention, we will be hosting a Grand Union Partnership one here @DPS for some of the contestants from our school and the other schools in the partnership.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.
