Thank you very much for the wonderful feedback received regarding the art on the school windows and the poppies on the lamp posts.  We were honoured to lay a wreath at the service last Sunday (at Holy Trinity Church) and thank Grace, Karolina and Zara for supporting this so beautifully. It was great to see so many DPS children, past and present, at the service representing various local clubs with respect and pride.

Every school week is full of a plethora of different learning opportunities and this week has been no different! The week started with an assembly for Y3-6 with the Rt Honourable Andrea Leadsom MP, as part of Parliament Week. This was a fascinating opportunity to find out more about the life of an MP; the children asked some fascinating questions. At the same time, our Reception children were having lots of fun exploring a fire engine and police truck!

On Thursday, we had a strong focus on anti-bullying with odd socks day, and today, we recognised Children in Need! This was on top of regular teaching and learning.

Additionally, we had a full local academy committee meeting on Tuesday evening and had the opportunity to welcome new governors, including our new staff governor Mrs. Kim Ritchie. Our grateful thanks go to Mr. Dan Peel for his previous role as the staff governor - a role he fulfilled with heartfelt commitment.

As we wrote a couple of weeks ago, all year groups have now sat their termly assessments. We are very proud of the children and how they showed the school values of resilience and being a thinker. These assessments were in reading, maths and SPaG (Spelling, punctuation and grammar). Their determination shone through! We are now in the process of analysing the results, sharing the information with governors and implementing interventions to support various children with their learning.

In addition to this, we have recently participated in a learning walk looking at our provision for science across the school. This involved a group of headteachers and governors from the Grand Union Partnership observing lessons, looking at books and interviewing children about their science learning. Feedback from the visit provided lots of positives with the next steps including pulling our new IPC documents together and developing a whole school science vocabulary document. If you have any feedback about your child's science learning, please contact us.

Following our latest Sunflower Award assembly, there is a dedicated newsletter on the school website celebrating the children's achievements.

Christmas Movie Night (above)

Bookings are now open and 60 children have already been signed up! Don't panic though as there is plenty of space for a lot more.

Head over to Arbor to book your places.

You'll have seen that we are hoping to take the whole school to see 'A Christmas Carol' at Planet Ice (Milton Keynes) on December 8th as they present a fun filled version adapted by the Show & Skate class for amateur and professional skaters.

You can sign your child up for this trip via Arbor. The cost is £10.

270 children have signed up so far! WOW

If you need any help with the booking or would like to talk about the cost of the trip, please don't hesitate to make contact.

We have had a number of cases of head lice in school. Could we please ask you to be extra vigilant when combing or brushing your child’s hair?
Because head lice are passed on through hair-to-hair contact, we would like to remind you that pupils with long hair should have their hair tied back with a band or clip.
If you require any further information please check out the NHS website,

Children in Need

Thank you so much for supporting our awareness and fundraising efforts today for Children in Need. The number of toys and books gifted for the bring-and-buy sale was phenomenal - thank you.

We collected a massive £237.80 on the gate and £169.60 from the bring-and-buy sale! A total of £407.40 is absolutely incredible.

There are a few items left from the sale that we will make available for the children to buy at break time on Monday if they would like. There are lots of books and soft toys available, but we apologise in advance if we run out.

You are also warmly encouraged to help yourself to our large selection of second-hand uniforms free of charge. We have a lot that we would like to be able to give away.

Football

With the first England football match on Monday, we have decided to give the children the opportunity of watching some or all of the match in class. We appreciate that learning time in school is very precious, but we have balanced this against the fact that the World Cup only comes around every four years and many of the children are very excited about it.  We will give the same opportunity for the Wales match.

As well as enjoying the football children in KS2 will also be using the match as an opportunity to consider various topical issues surrounding the values in different countries.

Football tops can be brought into school and put on for the match, but all children should come to school in their regular school uniform.

PE Kit

We are keen for the children to look as smart in their PE kits as they do in their regular school uniform.

Please be reminded of the school colours for PE -

  • White or red T-shirt - these can be with or without the school logo
  • Black shorts or black tracksuits
  • Black or white plimsolls for indoor games
  • Trainers for outdoor use

Please avoid other colours and football tops, thank you

As children are now coming to school in PE uniform on their PE days, they obviously need to be keeping warm in the colder weather, even if they are having indoor PE. Black tracksuits should be worn.

Deanshanger Primary School     Parent Teacher Association

We are pleased to announce, Deanshanger Primary School PTA has applied and been chosen, as an official cause through the Co-op local community fund. We have added some information and links below for you to read. The project you would be supporting involves re-landscape an area of the school playground, to increase play opportunities and help give all pupils the best possible school experience.

Do I need to be a member to help this cause?

Yes, and it’s easy to sign up. Please use the link below to join the co-op and our cause to get all the benefits of being a Co-op member. If you are already a member, click the same link and simply join our cause. With community support these projects can go beyond parents and carers in the school, so please see if grandparents or local residents would also like to support us. The more people that sign up, the more money can be raised towards the school playground project,

We are so proud of our PTA at Deanshanger Primary. They are always helping to provide extra things to enrich school life. In the past they have funded interactive whiteboards and provided pupils with opportunities to participate in activities such as first aid courses and author visits. The PTA would like everyone to enjoy school and give all pupils the best experience possible. This cause is yet another brilliant way to bring our community together to support our students.

What's inside the Meal Boxes?

St Mark Meals have developed 5 different meal kit boxes designed to create a delicious meal for the whole family. Everything needed for dinner is in the box, including a recipe card with straightforward instructions and games and puzzles for children to play with.

To make sure that the meals are available to ANY child, they have made sure that there are options for children who are vegetarian, or gluten-free or those that only have access to a kettle. Some of our families in school have tried them, and we can confirm, they're tasty!

Please come to reception and ask Mr Peel or Mrs Hodge if you would like a meal box. The cost of living is at an all-time high and with the community fridge and these meal boxes, we would like to try and help anyone that is finding things difficult. The meal boxes are a brilliant way to encourage children to help cook and have recipe cards inside. If you would prefer not to pick the boxes up from school, please call us to arrange alternative options.

Thank you very much to Mr and Mrs Laurence for lending us a chainsaw to remove parts of the old play equipment. It made a huge difference. Thank you to all of you that came forward with chainsaws for us to borrow. It is very much appreciated.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
