Newsletters 2022-23 Friday 14th October No.3

Deanshanger Primary School (@DeanshangerS) | Twitter

It was lovely to see so many of you join us for Parent/Carer meetings this week - a great opportunity to hear how your child is settling in class, how the start of the school year has gone from your perspective and possible consider areas to support at home.  Although this was a great opportunity for a catch-up, you are warmly invited to contact you child's teacher at any time if you have any questions - your first opportunity is on Monday!

We appreciate that meeting on Teams meant that you didn't see the teachers in person, but this is possibly balanced against the fact that you could join us from home and work.  We would appreciate your feedback regarding the meetings in readiness for the next ones later in the school year.

Reception parents, we hope that your meetings next Monday and Thursday go well.

Open Book Afternoon

You are warmly invited to call into school on Monday (17th October) between 3.00pm and 4.00pm to see your child's learning. This is not the same as parent meetings, but an opportunity to look through your child's books and enjoy the displays in class.

Reading Mornings

As many of you will know, before lock down, we used to host a very successful 'Reading Morning'. This would happen once a week across the school and be a welcome opportunity for parents to come and read with their child/children. Obviously, for us as a school this was an important event as it promoted reading and gave parents an opportunity to informally visit their child's classroom and support learning in this vital area.

We are pleased, and delighted to share, that 'Reading Mornings' will be recommencing from Monday 31st October. This will be across the school from Reception to Year Six. Parents will be welcome to come with their child to their classroom and read. This will be at normal school entry time, with parents leaving at 9.00am.

If you have children in multiple classes, you are welcome, and encouraged, to read in one of their classes or in one of our communal areas. For example, the library or courtyard.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that children should be reading at least 5 times a week. This reading should be recorded in your child's 'Home/School Diary' and signed by you.

We very much hope that you will join with us and support your child with their reading. If you have any questions, please contact your child's class teacher.

Congratulations to all the children that completed the village reading challenge. We would like them to bring in their certificates and awards on Wednesday 19th October so that we can celebrate their achievements in our assembly.

Huge thanks to the team from Santander that kindly came into school on Tuesday to help us with multiple projects as one of their community days

With a lot of hard work, they helped us in the following ways -

  • Starting to build us a mud pit
  • Painting lots of fences and our PTA and PE shed
  • Supporting improvements in the Reception outside area

Huge thanks to Mo for arranging this amazing opportunity for us, and Abi, Sabina, Nikii, Alanah, Patrick, Martin, Davinder and Adam. It was an absolute pleasure to host them and to reap the rewards of their hard work and kindness.

If you have an hour or two and would like to help us complete the mud pit, please let us know. We have to admit, that it is very hard work - a complete work-out!

Plus, if your work place has the opportunity for a community day, please keep us in mind.

The news team has been hard at work on plans for a monthly school 'newspaper.' The first edition will be available soon!

Each edition might include:

  • A short article on current affairs
  • An opinion piece with children interviewed
  • TT Rockstars/AR reports
  • Sports
  • 'Meet The Staff' / 'Pupil of the Month' Sections - including interesting biographical details/achievements celebrated

The children are creating the newsletter using Publisher and are very, very enthusiastic!!

Mr Larcombe

We like the fact that many children are enjoying collecting and trading football cards, and we are really keen to let this continue in school as it seems to be something that makes lots of the children happy. We have had a few falling outs this week though because of them. We really don't want to ban them, but we would ask you to talk to your child about two basic rules :

  • All cards must be kept in school bags until break or lunchtime and should not be shared during lessons or be in pockets.
  • If a card is traded it can not be swapped back.

If you think your child will struggle with these two rules, then could we please request that your child keeps their cards at home? Thank you

You'll have seen that we are hoping to take the whole school to see 'A Christmas Carol' at Planet Ice (Milton Keynes) on December 8th as they present a fun filled version adapted by the Show & Skate class for amateur and professional skaters.

You can sign your child up for this trip via Arbor. The cost is £10.

209 children have been signed up so far! WOW

If you need any help with the booking or would like to talk about the cost of the trip, please don't hesitate to make contact.

SEND

Next half-term the first of our parental workshops as part of our SEND partnership will be taking place. This will be run by the NHS speech and language team based on the following:

“Communication and Self-Regulation – how can we help and what other avenues can we explore?” Communication difficulties can make life very difficult for children and young people when it comes to developing their self-regulation skills. Together within the workshop we will consider situations and environments which are most testing for self-regulation and how the use of visual supports and systems which help to approach these for young children.

It will be on Zoom on Thursday 24th November 7.00-9.00pm. If you would like to attend this parental workshop, then please email me - senco@deanshanger.northants.sch.uk and I can send you the link for the meeting.

As always, any questions or concerns in regard to SEND then please do not hesitate to get in contact.
