Deanshanger Primary School (@DeanshangerS) | Twitter

Thank you very much for joining us on World Book Day for the parade. It was very touching to have you back on the school site and being part of school life.  The costumes were amazing and the new 'catwalk' style, seemed to go down well.

You'll see that we have an Open Book Afternoon and a Mother's Day event in the calendar; these have been a long time coming! Please join us if you can.

Next Friday we have a school disco - an event which is always a highlight of the calendar too. This will be outside this time, but more and more of our school events are starting to look closer to pre covid times. This is very exciting.

Rocksteady Music School (@RSMusicSchool) / Twitter

On Tuesday 29th March, we will be hosting Rocksteady concerts in the school hall with a live audience - something that we haven't had for some time!

Year 2,3 and 4 bands will play at 9.15am with an audience of Y2,3,4 and Reception classes.

Year 5 and 6 bands will play at 10.00am with an audience of Year 1, 5 and 6 classes.

Parents and carers with children in the bands are warmly invited to join us.

The band leader, Mr. Simon Falzon, will be leading the concert, but sadly, it will be his last one with us! The concert will be an opportunity for us to thank Simon for his dedication and support of our bands at DPS and wish him well with his future plans.

School discos are next Friday (18th March) and all children in the school are warmly invited to attend. Please book your child's place by booking on our clubs sections on Arbor.

Chair of Governor Updates

St Begh's Catholic Junior School - Governors

Good afternoon,

Governors met on Monday February 28th to agree to move forward with our journey on becoming an Academy and joining the Grand Union Partnership. We had a full discussion and raised a number of questions that were fully answered. As we get more details of the progress, we will share the information with you.

I have met with Mrs. Rice to catch up on various matters and on Wednesday 9th,  I joined the virtual assembly where we shared details of the upcoming Red Nose Day, the Colts 9-hour football marathon to raise money for Ukraine and the return of School Discos.

I am constantly amazed at the range of activities and fund-raising projects the school supports. I am particularly proud of the efforts made last week at short notice to donate items to be sent to Ukraine.  Well done to the school and the Community.

Next week, Governors will be holding 2 committee meetings - Personnel and Curriculum, and I will be meeting with our SENCo to discuss various matters linked to this area.

Finally, Governors will arrange meetings with the different year groups in the next few weeks to ensure that they have an opportunity to develop their understanding of progress in a specific area of the curriculum.

Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe.

We are very proud of Bobby Sheaf in Y4 for initiating a wonderful idea with the Colts football team to support the people of Ukraine. As a result of this, on Sunday 20th March, Deanshanger Colts under 9s will be completing a 9-hour relay around their home pitch raising money for the Disaster Emergency Committee - Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal. So far £750 has been donated to their JustGiving page!

An amazing idea and whole team effort.

Our thoughts and prayers extend to everyone impacted

It has been quite a while since we have had an Open Book afternoon (due to COVID), but we have one coming up!  Please feel free to join us on Monday 21st March between 3.00pm and 4.00pm.

Open Book is an opportunity to come and look through your child's books with them and see the progress that they are making.  Whilst the class teachers will be present, it is for book sharing only and other parents and carers will be present.

Please try to come along at any time in this time frame.

Wishing you all  a wonderful weekend.

Take care,

Rachel Rice
