Deanshanger Primary School (@DeanshangerS) | Twitter

Huge thanks to everyone for working incredible hard and showing extraordinary resilience to get us through the last half-term! Whilst we were hit quite hard by COVID (both children and staff), there continued to be a huge amount of very positive and fun learning going on.

Massive thanks to the whole DPS team and in particular Mrs Webb, Miss Peers, Miss Forward and Mrs Godwin for navigating the recent choppy waters!

As we return from the half-term break (on Monday 21st February), we intend to stick with the current restrictions on entering and collecting from different gates, keeping groups separate outside, putting volunteers on hold and restricting year groups being close together inside. However, by monitoring COVID numbers carefully and working in line with the government's guidance, we hope to be able to revert to fewer restrictions very soon after.

Thank you for working in partnership with us in so many areas of school life, including our efforts to reduce the impact of the pandemic on our school. It is a big team effort.

We are excited and delighted that after a lock-down delay, Natalie Wilmott, our SENCo, got married at the weekend after a mini dress rehearsal via Zoom in school last week!

We wish Mr and Mrs Parsonson all the very best on their new and exciting journey and a lifetime of love and happiness.

Natalie's email address will remain the same as we go forward - SENCo@deanshanger.northants.sch.uk

What are Special Educational Needs (SEN)? - Ash Tutors

  • Occupational therapy parental workshop - I hope those of you who attended found it useful and informative. If you would like the notes from the presentation, then please let me know and I can email them to you.
  • Watch out for a Target Autism parental workshop in the summer term.
  • Through our partnership we have been informed about Northampton parent forum group who are a registered charity to support families of children with SEND across Northamptonshire. https://www.npfg.co.uk/
  • External services - lots of parents have been in contact recently about long waiting lists for the support of external services. Unfortunately, this is an issue nationally and we continue to support children as best we can with the resources we have.

As always if you have any questions or concerns in regard to special educational needs then do please contact me.

Chair of Governor Updates

St Begh's Catholic Junior School - Governors

It's a shorter round up of Governor issues than usual primarily because of the Covid and its impact on staff and children. As Chair of Governors, I wish all of those who affected a speedy recovery and thank everyone at school for coping so professionally with the challenges this has presented over the last few weeks.

I joined a virtual Governors seminar on OFSTED updates and news re inspections carried out in the Autumn/Winter terms. This was an extremely interesting as it highlighted the impact of Covid and lockdown on children and schools.

On Thursday 27th January, I joined a virtual BNTO meeting where the children talked about use of the Internet and how you can stay safe.

Finally, I have kept in touch with a safeguarding matter and offered my support to Mrs Rice and the school in actions taken.

Please be reminded that there are a few days to go to ask any questions re the consultation on joining a MAT. There are already over 54 Frequently Asked Questions on the School website, so take a look if you have any queries. The end of the consultancy period is 18th February.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe half-term.

You might have noticed the beautiful collection of yellow hearts on the trees and bushes outside school. Try to pop along and have a read before they get too damaged by the weather! Every child in the school thought about kindness and love as part of our celebration of random Acts of kindness - something that we do annually in the run-up to Valentine's Day.

On Friday, we also recognised mental health awareness with class sessions about the importance of sharing our feelings and how it is what is inside that matters. More information about our day and our conversations will be shared next week.

Please be reminded not to park on the zigzag lines opposite the post box on The Green. This is causing congestion in the mornings and preventing our neighbours from leaving their homes.  Thank you, as always, for driving slowly in this area and watching out for pedestrians.

Thank you very much

Wishing you all a safe and happy half-term break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 21st February.

Take care,

Rachel Rice
