Newsletters 2021-22 Friday 10th December No.8

Deanshanger Primary School (@DeanshangerS) | Twitter

We continue to follow current Covid updates and act accordingly. In the last couple of days, we have received a letter from West Northamptonshire Local Authority that has requested that we consider our contingency plans in case changes are needed in January. You can access our current approaches and strategies towards managing this situation on the home page of the school website. We would presume that if the local situation worsens, that class bubbles will need to go back in to place with staggered starts and finishes again.  I will keep you up to date with the situation and all guidance received.

We continue to follow guidance to provide the very best of care for our whole school community and are committed to staying open, providing continuity and normality for our children.  Where we have higher numbers in a year group, we are supplementing sanitising cleans with antiviral fogging sprays.

Current cases throughout the school are as follows:

Reception - 1, Year 1 - 0, Year 2 - 1, Year 3 - 2, Year 4 - 3, Year 5 - 8, Year 6 - 0

We currently have had no confirmed cases of the Omicron variant and all staff that have recently had Covid, are now back in school.

Our very best wishes extend to everyone unwell at the moment.

Coming to a school near you next week ...

Our incredible school Christmas shop will be opening for one week ONLY! There are some fabulous presents on offer, and we are sure that your child will enjoy the opportunity to come and buy their Christmas presents. The shop will be run by Mrs. Rice and her Christmas elves!

Children must bring in £2 per gift and have it in school ready. This really is the ultimate Christmas shopping experience and one not to be missed!

For those of you that enjoy going to the theatre, you might want to check out this youth production coming to Stantonbury soon.

Faith in Year 6 will be starring in it!

It was with great regret that we had to cancel our evening Christmas concerts last Tuesday. We know that many of you were really looking forward to this experience, and it was with huge disappointment that we had to make the decision that we did! Our earlier concerts were a great success and was enjoyed by many of you. Hopefully, for those of you with children involved in these concerts, the small videos that we shared yesterday may have provided a small keepsake.

We are very much hoping that the Years 4, 5 and 6 Christmas Concert will go ahead on Tuesday 14th December at 2:30 and 5:30pm. We would like to thank Jess Hunting, our whole school music coordinator, for her energy, inspiration and enthusiasm in bringing these concerts to life. We would also like to thank the PTA for providing an abundance of refreshments.  The 5-day weather forecast indicates the weather will be cloudy for Tuesday but potentially not wet. Please wrap up warm and wear a face covering.

We will be holding a collection at the end of the concerts for St.Mark's meal - a local charity providing food boxes to families in challenging situations.

Chair of Governor Updates

St Begh's Catholic Junior School - Governors

Despite it nearly being the end of term, the governors and I have still been busy with meetings.

As Chair, I have been joining the BNTO (Be Nice To Others) committee on Wednesday afternoon. The children on this committee are raising awareness of positive behaviour in the school, as well as encouraging children to be there for each other. I have been extremely impressed with the committee’s enthusiasm and commitment to this ideal and I want to thank Miss Stanley and children for welcoming me and allowing me to share in this important work.

I continue to join in the Wednesday virtual assemblies and on December 1st participated in a celebration of the Jewish festival of Chanukah. The children across the school shared with me what they had learnt about the festival and I was able to share my personal experiences of this festival and the various traditions associated with it. It is part of the schools' ethos that we understand the different faiths and their traditions and subsequently respect each other as individuals.

On Friday December 3rd the assembly celebrated the first Sunflower Award in memory of our late Bursar Mrs Robson. Children from each year were chosen by their classmates, they represented the positive qualities shown by Mrs Robson and received a special badge pin. I want to thank Peter Nickoll for attending the virtual assembly and representing the Governors.

I had a Catch-up meeting with Mrs Rice on Monday and we discussed various issues including staffing, covid update and safeguarding. As I have said on numerous occasions, these meetings are extremely valuable in ensuring all governors are kept informed of the daily running of school.

The following day a hardy group of Senior Citizens, myself included, enjoyed an outdoor performance by the Reception and Year 1 children. As I said afterwards, their energy and joy overcame the cold weather and left everyone with a warm feeling inside. Well done to all the teachers and children involved.

Yesterday, Peter Nickoll joined a virtual Learning walk with the school and Local Authority.

Finally, with suitable precautions, governors and SLT enjoyed a meal and social evening on November 30th. It was lovely to be able to come together in a social environment and relax for a while.

This is probably the last newsletter before the Festive Season, so can I take the opportunity to wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year and hope you are able to share this time with Family and Friends in a safe and positive environment.

Christmas dinner is a highlight our school's culinary calendar! We are all excited about this delicious lunch on Wednesday 15th December. As previously shared, this will all now be on the same day to avoid anyone having to have a sandwich lunch on the other day.

Big thanks in advance to our fabulous Fresh Start team - Lisa Gordon, Sue Flannery and Shelley Fletcher.

Boccia Tournament - 6th December 2021
On Monday the 6th December, Olivia, William and Riley travelled to Roade (EWS North Campus) to compete in the Northamptonshire Sport - The Voice For Sport Boccia Tournament. Boccia is similar to bowls where the aim of the game is to get closer to the jack than your opponent. They all...

In addition to the Year 4,5 and 6 concert on Tuesday, at 2.30pm and 5.30pm, we are delighted to be hosting the Rocksteady concert in the courtyard (these are outside), on Tuesday morning. Huge thanks to Simon for leading the sessions each week and preparing the children ready for their performances.

If your child attends Rocksteady sessions, you should have received your invitation. Please wrap up warm and wear a face covering, thank you.

If you have any questions about school life, please always make contact.

Thank you very much for your constant support of your children and the school; through challenging times, this has been particularly appreciated.
