Welcome to the new school year!

It was wonderful to welcome new children and families to our school this week and reconnect with our 'existing' children.

It can be a little tricky getting back into routines after a summer break, but the children have all shown incredible resilience.  We understand that there might be a few nerves and teething issues, so please keep in close contact with us so that we can offer support, as needed, to address these. We want all children to feel as settled and happy as possible so that they are well-placed for strong learning.

For our youngest children in the school, our new Reception groups, a very warm welcome too. I hope that your children have a very successful learning journey with us from this point on.  After Zoom meetings and taster sessions, they started school on Thursday. They looked incredibly smart and largely excited about joining us.  Next week, the Reception children will be staying for lunch - another exciting next step.

As you are aware, we are erring on the side of caution in terms of our risk assessment, but regardless, the children seemed genuinely happy to be back seeing their friends again and enjoying the slight relaxations that we have planned ie, some year groups are together for outside breaks, and we are doing indoor PE again.  It is also good to see the children seated together in tables groups rather than lines.

New staff have also joined us and are really bringing strength to our great staff team.  A very warm welcome to Miss Steph Forward teaching in Year 1 (and a member of the SLT supporting Reception and Year 1), Mrs Sarah Burdett in Year 2, Mr Andrew Rowantree in Year 5, Mr Niall Taylor in Year 5 and Mrs Vanessa Hinsley providing LSA support in Year 1.  Miss Jess Hunting has also started with us on a part-time basis, teaching PE across the school.  Following recruitment last week, we look forward to sharing information about our new Forest School Leader shortly and our new midday supervisors.

I am very conscious that I could go on and on as there is a lot to share, but perhaps I should just point out that our school calendar in the on the website and in the home school diary, and leave you for now!

As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please share them. Open communication is very important to us.

Wishing you all a healthy, happy, fun and successful school year ahead.

Chair of Governor Updates

Welcome back Everyone. I can't believe that the summer break has been and gone, and we've already had a full week in school!

I hope you all managed to get away for some quality time together as a family and recharged your batteries.

Whilst restrictions are more relaxed, we are still being careful to ensure than your children are safe and yet able to receive as normal an educational environment as possible.

As Governors, we welcome both new staff and a new Reception class, both children and parents, to the school and hope you will enjoy your time with us.

We have already arranged out first series of virtual meetings for the September to December terms and as Chair will be setting up regular meetings with the Head to keep myself informed of the progress of school life and related issues.

I have already joined a virtual assembly and all Governors will be working with the school through virtual meetings with staff at present, but hopefully eventually being able to actually physically visit school when the situation allows.

I and all Governors are looking forwards to an exciting and successful new academic year.

If any parents/ carers want to speak with me, you can use my Governor email -ChairofGovernors@deanshanger.northants.sch.uk

Thank you

David Aaronson, Chair of Governors

To say that we miss Mrs Robson is an understatement. She was such an amazing lady playing a significant role in our school and community.

Thank you for helping us to pay our respects on Thursday 1st September. She will be forever in our hearts.

We have several plans to ensure that Mrs Robson is remembered in our school. We plan to create a wellbeing garden, plant lots of daffodils outside and inside school and launch the Sunflower Award. The sunflower was Mrs Robson's favourite flower.

We will shortly be launching the creation of a new termly award.  The sunflower symbolises positivity, admiration, strength and loyalty — attributes that Mrs Robson processed in abundance. This award will be presented to a child/children that stand out as processing these traits in their learning. There will be a very special display board in the school hall dedicated to the Sunflower Award. We will be making sunflowers in school but also invite you to do the same at home.

On the village's Scarecrow Trail day (Saturday 9th October), please feel free to drop off a sunflower head that you have made as a family — this might be made from paper, paper mache, clay, salt dough, fabric, knitting… uniqueness is the key! Bring them down to the table outside the school between 11 am - 1.00 pm so that we can build a beautiful display ready to permanently display in the school hall. We also invite you to bring food items for the community fridge at this time. Items such as tins, rice, pasta, cereal, pasta sauces, toiletries…would be amazing.

Appeal for Afghanistan

I know that we are asking a lot of you, but if you have any of the following items or could buy some for our appeal, we would love to support the 28 Afghanistan families that have been relocated to Newport Pagnell with absolutely nothing. In particular new toiletries, hair brushes, combs, shaving cream, razors, baby cups/beakers, nappy ointments and body moisturisers.

Please send in all items by Thursday 16th September.

Many thanks

Jeans for Genes

On Friday 17th, your child/ren is invited to wear jeans with the rest of their regular school uniform.  If possible, please send in £1 to be sent to the Jeans for Genes charity. For more information about the charity, click here - https://www.jeansforgenes.org/

It is a charity very important to our school community.

Big thanks to members of the Deanshanger Heritage Society for supporting our understanding of local history with their fascinating displays in our school.

Macmillan Coffee Morning – This year we would like to raise more awareness and money that ever. Please help us by dropping of individual cakes (homemade or bought) to the school office on Thursday 23rd September and then buying a pot luck bag of treats on Friday 24th September for £2. All funds raised will help people living with cancer.
