As shared in the previous newsletter, and on our Twitter feed, over the past fortnight children across the school have been engaged in assessments. These have mainly been in reading, writing, maths and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar). Also, in phonics for our younger children.

The children have approached these tests with commitment, dedication and resilience. You may ask how the information from these assessments is going to be used now. By analysing your child's performance, we will look at your child's strengths and areas for development. This will inform future teaching and learning. It will also help to frame targets within your child's report that will be coming home soon. These should give you something to work on over the school holidays with your child and to monitor going forward to the next school year.

Governors have also been involved in this process. They have monitored how the tests have been administered and Hannah Bailey has marked the maths, reading and SPaG papers! We very much appreciate her support with this and send her a massive thank you. These assessments will form discussions about standards in subjects with governors. Each governor represents a year group and will be meeting with their year group team before the end of term. Through discussing how children have performed in the assessments, it will give us all a very clear idea of strengths and areas for improvement during the next academic year. This will help to write the 2021/2022 school improvement plan.

Introducing two of our new staff for September 2021

still to tweak

Hello! My name is Miss Forward and I will be joining the school in September teaching in Year 1 and working closely with the wonderful Reception team! I am so excited to begin my journey at Deanshanger. Having taught in two previous schools in Northampton, across many different year groups, I am looking forward to starting my leadership role within the school! I am strongly passionate about the importance of Reception and KS1 and how it is the beginning of a child's educational journey, laying the foundations and building the characteristics of a successful, enthusiastic and confident learner. I love creating purposeful engaging activities and developing each individual child's effective characteristics of learning. I am also incredibly excited to be able to spend time in the school's wonderful outside learning environments, including the fantastic forest school, I love learning outside! When I am not teaching, I enjoy walking my dog, spending time with my niece and nephew, and (when we can) going on holiday!

Sarah Burdett

Hello, my name is Mrs Burdett and I am extremely excited to join Deanshanger Primary School in September.  I’m an experienced teacher and have been teaching for 24 years in Northampton and Milton Keynes.  My specialities are English, art and PE but enjoy teaching every subject.  I have taught every year group in a variety of different schools.  I am passionate about teaching.  I’m an enthusiastic and fun teacher and I can’t wait to create a rich, creative learning experience for my class.  Outside of the classroom, I am a keen photographer and love jumping into my VW camper van and embarking on exciting adventures with my two girls.  Last weekend we took a trip to snowdon In Wales with my family and enjoyed a couple of days walking my toy poodle, Lily and camped by a beautiful lake.  I very much look forward to meeting you all soon!

Jess hunting

I am very much looking forward to joining Deanshanger as your music specialist.

As well as being a qualified teacher, I have spent the last 15 years working as a musician, singer and performer. I have performed at many exciting venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the O2 arena and at BBC’s Proms in the Park where there was an audience of 40,000 people! I have been a choir leader for Rock Choir and I have Travelled to many countries leading choirs on exciting singing tours. In my own time I still run choirs and visit different schools teaching music.

I am very excited to build on the musical strengths at Deanshanger. I look forward to bringing you music lessons that are interactive and fun, and I look forward to meeting all the children.

In my personal time I love being outdoors. I have a campervan and love going away on adventures with my 7 yr old daughter.

Likes: Pink (the singer), chocolate, guinea pigs , sunny weather, rollercoasters

Dislikes: the dentist, rain, ice-cream (I know, hard to believe!) going upside down on rollerscoasters!

Updates from our Chair of Governors

Well it's been another 2 weeks for Governors and I want to thank them for their support.

On Monday 14th we had a Finance and Resources meeting where we discussed a number of important issues around the budget and ensuring that we monitor the financial outgoings and future expenditure.

We heard about a new programme call XERO that allows for a more transparent and simpler way to monitor expenditure and outgoings It will reduce the use of paper and so reduce costs overall.

We had reports on Pupil Premium, and on Wrap Club as well as use of money overall. The Governor's want to thank Naomi Godwin our Business Manager for her time and energy in monitoring the budget and ensuring we get real value for money.

All week Governor's supported the school in monitoring the Year 6 SATS. It was a very interesting experience and the children acquited themselves very well and as Governor's we were impressed with the way they worked, despite the weather being very hot.

My thanks to the teachers and LSA's for their support and to Governor's for their input. It is experiences like this that allow us to participate in the life of the school.

Last Thursday I met with Natalie  Wilmot  our SENCO and we discussed the way school supports all those children who have additional needs and how we ensure they have full access to the curriculum and school life

Thank you for your continued support of your children and the school.
