Proud to be part of the local community

At Deanshanger, we have always played an active part in the local community and we are proud to continue doing so even in these difficult times. This weekend we will be part of the scarecrow trail - an opportunity to recognise the 20th birthday of Deanshanger Feast! Well done to Jennifer Underhill and team, for organising a safe way of being together as a community. On the leaflet shared this morning, you'll find all the places to look for the scarecrows and enjoy independent stalls.

Please also try to add the school onto your route tomorrow. We'll be collecting items for Towcester Foodbank between 10.00am - 12.30pm. Please try to pop down and bring whatever you can. Thank you very much in advance.

Thank you very much for joining the class teachers on Zoom for the parent/carer meetings last week. It was the first time that we have held the meetings in this way, but they appear to have gone relatively smoothly and might even have been easier than the traditional style of coming into school!

It is likely that we won't have much choice but to continue working in this way in the future, but regardless, it would be great to hear your opinions to help us improve.  Please take the time to fill in the following survey.

Thank you

During the lock down period, we were thrilled to be awarded a Leading Parent Partnership Award. This recognised the way in which we work with you - the parents and carers, and our ongoing commitment to improving our communication with you.

We are now about to start working towards a new award to recognise our strong focus on supporting the varying needs of all of our/your children.  We want to build upon our inclusive environment where all pupils participate fully in school life and improve outcomes for children with special educational needs.

The SEND Inclusion Award  'helps schools deliver high-quality education for pupils with SEND. Compliant with the SEND Code of Practice, the award framework focuses on removing barriers to learning through early identification, inclusive teaching and leadership. It also allows you to evaluate impact to improve classroom practice and pupil outcomes'.

We will be sharing our journey with you as we continue to reflect and improve.

Bike and be safe!

We are thrilled to see children travelling to school on their bikes. Since arrival time is staggered, it allows children the time to park up their bike without mixing with children with another bubble. Please be reminded that children must wear a helmet when travelling by bike for safety purposes. We like to see heathy living and seeing parents and children travelling to school on bike and on foot is great.  Children are also warmly invited to bring in their scooters; helmets are not compulsory for these.

Thank you

Governors update from Mr David Aaronson, Chair of Governors

It has been a busy time for me as Chair despite the restrictions placed on us by the pandemic. I have been on a number of virtual training sessions, covering areas such as Equality and Diversity, Looked after Children and Chair and Vice Chair Updates. I came into school to do a Single Record Check and have met with the Head to discuss and share various issues re school life and teaching and learning, all carried out over safe social distancing.

We are hoping to hold a virtual Full Governor’s meeting on October 12th to start focussing on a number of important matters and share ideas for the future academic year.

We are also in the process of recruiting new Governors to the team and will give more details when this is completed.

Can I take this opportunity to say that George Fairweather has resigned as a Governor and want to thank him for his hard work, commitment and support to the school during his time on the Governing Body.

Finally, I have been pleased to hear how the staff and pupils are coping with all the demands placed on them by the present situation. As Governors we are all aware of the challenges we are facing and remain fully supportive of the school in all it is doing to create a welcoming, exciting and safe environment for your children.

Remember if you have any concerns or questions please speak to the school of a Governor, we are here to listen and learn.

We are proposing a Reading and Phonic Meeting for EYFS and Year 1 families on Tuesday 17th November. This will be a virtual Zoom Meeting at 7pm. Keep the date free!

We would love to see as many parents as possible at this meeting. We will explain how and why we teach phonics. This will include a guide with suggestions on how you can support your child at home.

Today is Mental Health Awareness Day at DPS

Rugbytots Ireland on Twitter: ""A child's mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality of support." It's Children's Mental Health Week this week. Here are

More than ever, the mental health of all of us needs special focus. There are so many uncertainties at the moment and, not surpirsingly,  a large group of children (and adults) are finding it tough.  Our curriculum has been revised to provide additional time to listen, talk and share concerns.

Please always share any concerns that you or your children have so that we can work with you to provide additional support wherever we can.  We all have good listening ears in school and are here to help. Mrs. Mildren, our Learning Mentor, is also ready to jump in and help wherever possible. Please continue to encourage your children to talk and share their feelings.

There are multiple great resources that you can access to support mental health and awareness. The following links are just two of the very many -

NHS - Every Mind Matters      YoungMinds

You might also want to remind your child of the visit we had a few years ago by Ben Smith.  He continues to run and cycle ridiculous amounts in extreme challenges to promote mental health awareness. #findyourhappy
