Dear Year 4 Families,

We hope that you have had an enjoyable half-term break. We have lots of fun activities coming up this term.

Year 4 residential trip

Please be reminded that we leave for the residential on the 20th March. Here are a few reminders for you and your child to prepare:

-All items should be named

-Children should be able to carry their bag independently

-They should have a throw-away lunch in a separate named bag

-They can bring 1 teddy but this should fit into their bag with their clothes

-Their kit for canoeing should be in a plastic bag

-Indoor shoes can be any comfortable shoe including sliders

-No electronics should be packed including electronic toothbrushes or smart watches

-The children do not need snacks as they are provided.

-On Wednesday 20th March, please arrive at school at the usual time with the children’s luggage. The children can bring their luggage to school via the KS2 gate.

-The coach is expected to leave around 9:30 you are welcome to stay to wave as we leave.

- We will be sending lots of updates and photos to inform you about how they are getting on with their activities

-On Friday 22nd we should be back for the usual pick up time of 3:25pm. We will send out a message if the coach is running late.

- The children were given homework over the half term to learn how to make a bed as they will need to be able to do this on the trip. We hope you have had lots of fun practicing! All of the bedding is provided so the children do not need to bring their sleeping bags.

Things you need to know about this term:

· Home/school diaries need to be in school every day in order to record reading. Please remember to record all of their reading and sign the diaries weekly.

· Please ensure children have clothing suitable for the weather conditions of this time of year as it is still cold. Children need to bring their coats into school.

· Forest school will run on alternate weeks for each class with Baryonyx class’ session on Wednesday 28th February. Don’t forget your waterproof kit, wellies and woolly socks!

· As we are approaching the residential could you please ensure payments are being made. Please contact the office or Miss Stanley about this. If you need any help with any of the kit list please contact the office.

Topic

We are continuing with our topic of Land, Sea and Sky for the first couple of days back. Our topic will then be Travel and Tourism. In the topic children will compare the UK to life in North America. On Thursday, the children will start this topic by pretending to take a flight to North America and begin to explore the different countries that make up the continent.

Homework

Just to remind you we set homework on Fridays and expect it to be returned on Wednesdays.

Reading

We are encouraging the children to read for enjoyment and pleasure and expect them to read at least five times a week. This reading should be recorded in their Home/School diary with title and pages read. There is also a Reading morning each Monday at 8:45.

Independence and resilience

Year 4 is an important year in terms of establishing good organisational skills that will support future independence in learning. It’s important that children take responsibility for their own ‘Home/School Diary’, belongings and homework, but that they are positively encouraged at home and school. We are continuing to support the children with their resilience by reminding children to not give up and understand that mistakes are part of their learning journey.

Times tables

Please continue to support your child learning their times tables at home. This will support your child in the year 4 end of year times table test and also in their learning of fractions and division. If you would like your child to take part in our tt rockstars group please send your child into school via the office at 8:30 each Monday morning.

Due to the residential the dates of the year 4 parent meetings will now be 25th and 26th of March.

We look forward to another positive term of learning and fun. If you have any concerns, please come and share them with us. Our email addresses are located in the front of the ‘Home/School Diaries’ and this is a useful way of communicating with us.
