Dear parents,

We hope you had a lovely Easter break. This term we will be continuing with the IPC unit of learning Island Life.

This unit of learning is part of the International Primary Curriculum. This curriculum sets out very clearly what children will learn in three different areas:

During this unit we will be focusing on:

In Geography, we’ll be learning about:

  • The continents of the world and their islands
  • Interpreting and using maps
  • Lines marked on maps and globes that divide up the Earth
  • The geographical features on different islands
  • Features of a river
  • The water cycle
  • How to use 4 figure grid references
  • The different ways islands are formed
  • How humans have developed and made use of islands.

In History, we’ll be learning about:

  • Darwin’s exploration of islands.

In Art, we’ll be learning about:

  • Fabrics and patterns from different islands
  • How to create an island-inspired stamp
  • Artists who have been inspired by islands.

In International, we’ll be learning about:

  • The unique cultural aspects of a place
  • How island culture and ecology is under threat and how to protect them.

Please engage your child in discussion with these topics as and when is appropriate.

Indoor PE:

This will continue on Monday afternoons. Please ensure your child comes to school with their PE kit for Indoor PE. They must also bring their plimsolls.  Please remember that PE kits consist of a red or white t-shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms, plimsolls and a black jacket or hoodie.

(Slogans, football club affiliations or ‘designer labels’ are not permitted)

Earrings should not be worn on PE days or they should be removed or taped by the child before the lesson. Long hair should be tied back.

Outdoor PE:

Outdoor PE will continue on Thursday afternoons. Please ensure your child comes to school with their outdoor PE kit.  The PE kit is the same as for indoor PE although trainers will be required.

(Slogans, football club affiliations or ‘designer labels’ are not permitted)

Earrings should not be worn on PE days or they should be removed or taped by the child before the lesson. Long hair should be tied back.

Forest School:

Forest School will continue on alternate Thursday mornings. Please make sure your child has a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers and wellies in school that fit them as towards Christmas we had quite a few children with only part of their kit in school. Please check that your child’s waterproofs and wellies still fit them.

If you have any questions then please let us know.
